Lot 40 Canadian Rye Whisky is a distinguished expression that pays homage to the rich heritage of Canadian rye whiskies. Originally introduced in the late 1990s by Corby Distillers, the brand was named after a plot of land in Ontario that was home to Joshua Booth, a Canadian pioneer and politician, and an ancestor of one of Hiram Walker’s distillers. Despite its initial discontinuation, Lot 40 was reintroduced in 2012 in response to the growing demand for premium rye whiskies. Distilled at the Hiram Walker Distillery in Windsor, Ontario, Lot 40 is crafted from a mash of 90% unmalted rye and 10% malted rye, aged in new charred oak barrels, and bottled at 86 proof. 

The 750ml bottle of Lot 40 Canadian Rye Whisky features a classic design with a rich amber hue, reflecting its maturation. The label's understated elegance highlights the whisky's heritage and quality.

On the nose, this whisky offers a complex bouquet of aromas, including fruity plum and menthol, followed by cinnamon, clove, and a hint of smoky black cardamom. There is also a touch of dill mingling with a slight prickle of alcohol heat, which marries nicely with the heavy rye aromas. 

The palate presents a rich mouthfeel with a full, spicy character. An initial light brown sugar sweetness transitions to a dry mid-palate full of rye bread, black pepper, brine, and a mouthwatering sourness, reminiscent of a deli pickle. The finish is long and savory, with the numbing quality of cloves and capsaicin on top of toasted oak, rye grain, and dusty cinnamon.
